We are so excited that you are interested in our YMCA Special Needs Swim Buddies program! Our Swim Buddies program provides an opportunity for participants to make a new friend and learn basic water safety skills and drowning prevention skills. All participants are paired with a volunteer buddy for the duration of the swim class. Volunteers will follow a visual progression board while working with a swim instructor to assist special needs participants in learning to swim. Each session consist of six consecutive swim classes for an hour. Each participant is paired with a buddy, we usually have at least two swim instructors and one lifeguard on deck. We also have an award ceremony at the last class. The award ceremony consist of a medal and a swim buddies t-shirt for every participant!

The YMCA of South Florida is part of the YMCA of the USA, the largest not-for-profit community service organization and second largest charity in America.
