Mission Statement
We envision an intergenerational connection between younger individuals and older adults. Achieving healthy aging is enriched through intergenerational engagement and relationships to reduce senior loneliness and isolation. The Salvation Army Mission Statement The Salvation Army is an international movement, an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description
San Diego Silvercrest is an independent senior living residence managed by the Salvation Army. The seniors are 62+ and have limited incomes, their ability to access services, participate in social and cultural activities is limited due to mobility and age. Social isolation resulting from loss of personal mobility can lead to depression and sharp declines in physical health.
We are seeking volunteers to have fun with activities that enrich the lives of the residents. All ages to join in activities such as games, art, music and projects of their pasts as they share their skills, patience, and share your talents/ideas. One-on-one or group socialization, and skill building such as getting the seniors more comfortable with new technologies like smart phones and tablets. This reciprocity builds a sense well being, purpose, sense of community and the opportunity to produce extraordinary relationships that may last throughout the seniors and volunteers lives.
