Being a volunteer driver is an excellent opportunity to learn more about your community by connecting to the people within it. Volunteer drivers bring Wheels of Hope clients wherever they want to go within our service area. Our service provides door through door service for people with disabilites.

Volunteer drivers will use their own vehicles to pick up clients, keep them company throughout their appointments, assist them with simple errands, and even attend social events.

Wheels of Hope was formed to improve the wellbeing of our ACC residents and neighbors in

surrounding counties who lack mobility by providing transportation no matter the age of the

client while also relieving the isolation this portion of the population experiences on a daily

basis.

All of our volunteers possess a wonderful servant's heart. They realize it's not just a ride but

the emotional support they provide to all of our clients.

The hours are very flexible and volunteers can sign up for requested rides when they have time - we just ask that our volunteers pick up at least four hours a month.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and at least three years of driving experience.
  • A safe driving record with no moving violations for at least three years.
  • Clear criminal history check.
  • Proof of liability insurance for each vehicle used to transport clients.
  • Current registration for each vehicle used to transport clients.
  • Personal references from three non-relatives.

Benefits:

  • Make a positive difference in someone’s life.
  • Develop lasting relationships and personal connections with the people you help.
  • Meet other community-minded people.
  • Learn more about the people who live in your community.
  • Receive training and build your resume.
  • Invitations to volunteer appreciation events.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to bring hope to our clients by providing transportation, compassion, and companionship to those who would otherwise be denied access to our community.

Description

Wheels of Hope - Athens is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in December 2018 that provides arm-in-arm, door-through-door transportation services for the visually impaired, disabled, and elderly who have lost the ability to drive. However, we are more than just a transportation service as we seek to alleviate the isolation these members of our community experience due to their limited mobility. This is why we offer our services for a wide range of needs-medical, social, business-and provide assistance every step of the way. Wherever our clients need to go, we help them get there. Our vision is to contribute to the formation of inclusive, vibrant communities wherein no one is excluded or isolated due to their lack of mobility.
