Befriender | This is an in-person opportunity. You would be assigned one patient/family to visit weekly as a friend. You will help reduce isolation and increase their socialization. Most of our patients are bed or wheelchair bound and cannot go or do much anymore. You need to be comfortable with the minimal covid-19 exposure risk of going into homes and facilities. Magnolia can provide masks or other PPE as needed. When we are aware of active covid cases you will be informed and we would not allow volunteer visits to that home or facility. We can provide rapid covid-19 tests for active volunteers currently assigned to and visiting patients.
Befrienders: Do you have an hour a week to befriend someone with a terminal diagnosis? Many hospice patients have outlived their family and friends or have very little support at the end of their life.
There is no greater gift than the gift of presence. Someone to walk beside. We offer training and then assign you a patient that lives near you. Most of our volunteers visit their patients once a week for about an hour or two. Volunteers visit, read, play games, play music, etc. No medical care, just being a friend. If you are interested please complete the volunteer application. Thank you for having the heart to serve others.
Feel free call, text or e-mail David Houke at 817.964.1997 or dhouke@magnoliahospice.com with any questions.
