Mission Statement

BAVC Media (Bay Area Video Coalition) inspires social change by empowering media makers to develop and share diverse stories through art, education and technology. Our values include the following: (1) Radical Access - BAVC Media is rooted in media justice. Everyone should have access to the tools, resources and community necessary to create new narratives for themselves and their communities. (2) Collective Spirit - We believe in plurality - of voice, of identity, of perspective. We believe in the power of cultivating an ecosystem of media that authentically reflects the diversity and nuance of our community. (3) Participatory Media - Everyone should have the chance to be active producers and interpreters of media. Whether in an online course or an artist development cohort, at BAVC Media you will have an immersive, communal learning experience that encourages you to question and create.

Description

BAVC Media is a community hub and resource for media makers in the Bay Area and across the country, serving thousands of freelancers, filmmakers, job-seekers, activists, and artists every year. Founded in 1976, we've been leaders in the independent media movement since 1976! BAVC Media provides access to media making technology, storytelling workshops, a diverse and engaged community of makers and producers, services and resources. BAVC Media advocates for those whose stories aren't being told, and provides the resources for anyone to create and share, and amplify their stories and those of their communities. BAVC Media's diverse, innovative programs lead the field in media training for youth and educators, technology and multimedia focused workforce development, visually-driven new media storytelling and audio-visual preservation.

We are in a building phase and looking for directors to help us realize BAVC Media's next chapter!
