Role Summary

Youth Worker Interns provide in-home/in-community case management, advocacy, safety planning, goal planning, and connections to resources to youth and young adults of all genders and their children (if they are parenting). Youth served live throughout the metro area and have experienced (or are at risk of experiencing) relationship violence, sexual assault or exploitation, stalking, and homelessness.

Position Responsibilities
  • Travel to meet clients in their home or in the community to provide effective, strength-based, and individualized case management services
  • Correspond with other service providers/agencies in the community to promote the program and partner to best serve clients
  • Ability to work independently with clients and in completing required administrative tasks
  • Provide ongoing open communication with supervisor/team, including participation in client consultation meetings
Position Qualifications:
  • Experience working with youth and/or young adults
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and clients to foster a culturally inclusive environment
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and respond appropriately to youth and adults (and their children) while maintaining client confidentiality
  • Comfortable with technology, including basic computer programs and databases
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout metro area
Time Commitment & Availability
  • 10-20 hours per week with a minimum commitment of nine months preferred
Supervision & Training
  • Attend Tubman’s five part Volunteer/Intern Orientation and Training Series
  • Supervised by the Youth Housing and Outreach Manager

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
