ORGANIZATION: Sutro Stewards

Come join us for a morning in trail stewardship activities such as brushing, trail maintenance or trail building and work towards our mission of building community, connecting people with nature, and protecting and enhancing Mount Sutro, one of the city’s wildest and most beautiful green spaces. In response to COVID-19, we are asking all volunteers to provide their own masks. We are also asking volunteers to provide their own landscaping gloves if possible. Please bring your own water and snacks! Wear clothes that can get dirty! Long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect your legs and arms while working and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Some work areas may have poison oak and arrive in appropriate clothing limits exposure risk. If you have a known sensitivity, please alert a crew leader prior to starting work. We will meet in the Aldea Center at 155 Johnstone Drive. Street parking is available along Clarendon Avenue at Johnstone Drive. Once you RSVP, we will be reaching out to you with a more in-depth info packet and two participation waivers.

About Sutro Stewards

Location:

Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve, San Francisco, CA 94131, US

Mission Statement

To create Urban Recreational Opportunities while practicing Sustainable Habitat Conservation Through Stewardship.

Description

The Sutro Stewards was formed to address a unique need in San Francisco, fostering positive relationships between habitat conservation needs and the recreational needs of a dense urban population.

Over the last seven years our founding members and thousands of volunteers have reactivated a virtually abandoned 61 acre open space, located in the center of San Francisco, into a destination for exploration, recreation and stunning forest views. Having accomplished this, we are now working to extend our impact through habitat restoration and environmental education. Our nursery has been actively gathering locally rare plants to place in our seed-bank gardens, which in turn will provide the seed and cuttings to produce plants in large enough quantities for field planting projects. This projects help to minimize the continuing loss of habitat by reintroducing these species to new suitable sites they may colonize.
