ORGANIZATION: Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, National Park Service

Educational event at the Dakota County Fairgrounds, teaching 5-6 rotations of 20 or so local 5th graders about prairie ecology, and the link between prairie roots/invasive species and water quality. Teach/play a game for about 20 min., then the groups rotate through other stations at the fairground prairie. Approx. 5-6 groups in the morning, the 5-6 in the afternoon. Lunch is provided.

The Volunteers-In-Parks program, jointly managed by Mississippi National River and Recreation Area and Mississippi Park Connection, connects, educates, and promotes the enjoyment of the resources of the Mississippi River through unique and entertaining volunteer opportunities to the entire community.

Description

The Volunteers-In-Parks program is a joint program with Mississippi Park Connection. Mississippi National River and Recreation Area represents America's greatest river, the Mississippi, which weaves together the natural and cultural heritage and economic vitality of the region. The National Park Service works with partners to foster increased citizen awareness, advocacy, and enjoyment of the resources of the Mississippi River.

Volunteer-In-Parks provides people with opportunities to discover, experience, and enjoy the diversity of the Mississippi River while also preserving it for future generations through volunteer restoration projects and education programs.
