Higher Achievement needs volunteers like you to provide middle school students in underserved communities with caring role models.
Who: Higher Achievement mentors are a diverse group of people from many different backgrounds. You do not need to have any prior teaching experience to be a mentor. Mentors choose their subjects and receive significant support from Higher Achievement, including curricula, orientation, and regular training and coaching.
What: Teach a small group of 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th graders on a prescribed curriculum: STEM or Humanities on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays during our Afterschool Academy (September - May).
Where: Higher Achievement Baltimore serves in three communities: Cherry Hill, Southwest Baltimore, and East Baltimore.

Description
Higher Achievement is a non-profit organization that helps underserved middle-school students, referred to as "scholars", improve their grades, attendance, and standardized test scores, culminating in acceptance to top high schools in Baltimore. Higher Achievement delivers year-round, rigorous academic programming that yields outstanding outcomes.
During the scholars' four years in Higher Achievement, they study social-justice oriented curricula; work with mentors weekly; self select enriching elective courses; and participate in academic contests, university stays, and academic field trips. Higher Achievement's strong network of mentors is instrumental to the success of its program.
