Working River Field Trip Assistant

ORGANIZATION: Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, National Park Service

Assistants are needed to help at one of three learning stations that allow students to learn more about the St. Anthony Falls, Mill Ruins and Stone Arch Bridge historical area of Minneapolis. Station 1 involves students learning a lock game in the visitor center and walking along the wall of the upper lock to view St. Anthony falls up close. Station 2 involves students participating in a transportation game and walking along the Stone Arch Bridge to view the falls and its historical surroundings. Station 3 involves students exploring the mill ruins through an iPod camera lens adventure. Assistants are needed for managing the flow of students and assisting them with engaging in activities.

The Volunteers-In-Parks program, jointly managed by Mississippi National River and Recreation Area and Mississippi Park Connection, connects, educates, and promotes the enjoyment of the resources of the Mississippi River through unique and entertaining volunteer opportunities to the entire community.

Description

The Volunteers-In-Parks program is a joint program with Mississippi Park Connection. Mississippi National River and Recreation Area represents America's greatest river, the Mississippi, which weaves together the natural and cultural heritage and economic vitality of the region. The National Park Service works with partners to foster increased citizen awareness, advocacy, and enjoyment of the resources of the Mississippi River.

Volunteer-In-Parks provides people with opportunities to discover, experience, and enjoy the diversity of the Mississippi River while also preserving it for future generations through volunteer restoration projects and education programs.
