Responsibilities: Preparedness interns will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of American Red Cross programs to educate the community in the various lines of Disaster service. This intern will help coordinate events as well as manage and deliver presentations to increase the community presence of the American Red Cross. Intern will also work closely with the Disaster Cycle Services Team to communicate with community partners, and track project activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Implement presentations for community partner programs
- Maintain a database of statistics from presentations and events
- Maintain preparedness team information
- Communicate new events and presentation opportunities to all Disaster volunteers
- Recruit volunteers for events and presentations
- Attend events and lead presentations
Time Commitment: 12+ hours/week
Qualifications:
- Enthusiastic about American Red Cross programs
- Successfully completed background check
- Enrolled in post-secondary education program
- Coursework towards a degree in Emergency Management, Social Services, Non-Profit Management, or similar major.
Relationships: Reports to the Disaster Cycle Services Team
Length of Appointment: Semester
Training:
- Orientation to the American Red Cross
- Disaster Cycle Services Overview (on-line)
- Preparedness Intern Workshop (2 hours)
- Hands Only CPR Training
- Psychological First Aid (on-line)
- All Preparedness Presentation Instructor Classes
- On-the-job training
Availability: During business hours between 8 am and 4 pm
