Enrich Your Life: Volunteer at Bedford Gallery!
Bedford Gallery, located in the Lesher Center for the Arts, offers enriching, educational volunteer opportunities! By volunteering you can learn about trends in contemporary art, make friends, and contribute to a thriving art scene in your community.
Bedford Gallery is currently seeking Guild and Docent volunteers. Guild Members staff the gallery’s front desk and welcome in visitors while docents lead school tours of gallery exhibitions and provide hands-on art projects. No prior art knowledge is required!
For those interested in guild volunteering, we ask for 2.5 hour shifts once a month (Tues-Fri 12-2:30 pm or 2:30-5 pm). Guild members can also assist during receptions (weekday or weekend). For those interested in docent volunteering, we ask for weekday availability for morning or afternoon tours.
Volunteers are welcome to join throughout the year. Docent training dates begin this Fall.

Mission Statement
Bedford Gallery exhibits the work of historic, modern, and contemporary artists. The Gallery is dedicated to providing the public with opportunities to learn about visual arts through public programs that are varied, accessible, challenging, and educational. Its mission is to provide exhibitions and other programs that both reflect and engage the diverse audiences of the entire Contra Costa region.
Description
The Gallery organizes and presents five to six exhibitions each year. In addition, we offer lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and many other kinds of public programs. Gallery docents give tours that include hands-on art projects to over 2,000 school children each year, in addition to tours for seniors and adult groups. The approximately sixty volunteer members of the Bedford Gallery Docent Council receive professional training in both art history and teaching techniques. The Bedford Gallery Guild, a volunteer group of 55 members, staffs the reception desk every day, hosts receptions and other special events, and produces annual fundraising events.
With 3,500 square feet of exhibition space, Bedford Gallery is the largest community-based visual arts facility between the Bay Area and Sacramento. This contemporary art space is housed in the City of Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts, which also contains three theaters. The Gallery was originally founded in 1968 as the Civic Arts Gallery and was renamed for Peter and Kirsten Bedford, who donated generously to the Center's campaign.
The Bedford Gallery is a program of the City of Walnut Creek's Department of Arts, Recreation, and Community Services and is overseen by the Arts Commission . The Diablo Regional Arts Association, a private non-profit tax-exempt organization, provides vital financial and volunteer enrichment for the Bedford Gallery and other cultural services programs.
