DESCRIPTION

Volunteer will assist with Repair Cafe. Volunteer will greet patrons, directing them to staff if necessary, and otherwise will help members in the community repair items brought in to the event. Repair may involve: electronics, soldering, textiles, sewing machines, and beyond.

All volunteer times occur at 6 Garden Center and in-person training will be provided. Volunteer will work with visitors to the space and staff. They will work in the main inventHQ room and may access the supply room.

Volunteer should enjoy working with the public, including students of all ages, families, and adults.

TIME COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULE

Volunteer must make a minimum of a four (4) month commitment. And will be expected to attend at least two Repair Cafe’s within the four (4) month window in a volunteer capacity. Schedules for volunteering will be opened a month ahead, via google spreadsheet that will be emailed to volunteers. Shifts will be first come first serve.
Repair Cafe is generally:

• First Saturday of the month
• Event runs 9:30-11, set up begins at 9.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work within specific program guidelines as stated above. Follow direction from library staff on activities and availability and use of equipment and resources. Notify coordinator of any changes in time or schedule. Record your own volunteer hours in a provided notebook.

TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND SUPPORT

Library staff will communicate with volunteers via email or phone and will be working alongside volunteers during each shift.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and experience with a variety of hand tools and crafting tools, interest, patience and ability to work with all ages. We are especially looking for folks comfortable troubleshooting, as well as those able to solder. Volunteer application/disclosure form and a background check are required as well as a resume or statement showing qualifications in these subject areas. An interview may be conducted. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a background check prior to assignment.
