DESCRIPTION

Volunteer will support Code Club Leaders with Code Club. Code clubs utilize Python, micro python and micro:bit make code. Coding experience is helpful, but not required. Support might mean helping proofread code to find why it is not working as anticipated, helping move files, or general computer/typing support. Volunteer will also help Code Club Leaders and inventHQ Staff with setting up computers and equipment for Code Club.

Volunteer may be asked to greet parents, and direct them to inventHQ staff with any questions.

All volunteer times occur at 6 Garden Center and in-person training will be provided. Volunteer will work with visitors to the space and staff. They may work in the main inventHQ room, the Broadlands Conference room and the supply room (in order to set up for code club).

Volunteer should enjoy working with the public, including students of all ages, families, and adults.

TIME COMMITMENT AND SCHEDULE

Volunteer must make a minimum of a four (4) month commitment. And will be expected to attend at least one Code Club a month. Schedules for Code Club volunteering will be opened at the beginning of the Code Club semester, via google spreadsheet that will be emailed to volunteers. Shifts will be first come first serve.
Code Club meets:

  • Spring and Fall
  • Second and Fourth Wednesday of the month from 4-5:30
  • Exceptions may occur when school breaks or major holidays occur on Code Club dates

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work within specific program guidelines as stated above. Follow direction from library staff and Code Club Leaders on planned activities and availability and use of equipment and resources. Notify coordinator of any changes in time or schedule. Record your own volunteer hours in a provided notebook.

TRAINING, SUPERVISION, AND SUPPORT

Library staff will communicate with volunteers via email or phone and will be working alongside volunteers during each shift.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and experience with coding and computers, interest, patience and ability to work with all ages. Volunteer application/disclosure form and a background check are required as well as a resume or statement showing qualifications in these subject areas. An interview may be conducted. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and must pass a background check prior to assignment.
