Volunteer Opportunity
The ESL Conversation Group Volunteer assists with developing a weekly topical conversation topic curriculum for the speaker/learning group who attends the conversation group discussion.
Example of Duties
Working with library staff or conversation group leader, develop vocabulary word lists, idiomatic expressions, listener exercises and topic-based questions; participate in small group discussions revolving around the theme of the week.; assist with meeting room set-up prior to the beginning of the conversation group meeting.
Qualifications and Skills
Native English speaker who is familiar with American customs, idioms and vocabulary; able to devote the time necessary to prepare lessons and meet regularly with the conversation group; desire and patience to help others learn English conversational skills.
Benefit to Community Library
Assist non-native English speakers to become more comfortable with their English conversation skills, which will help them integrate into the American culture. By offering ESL conversation group discussions at the library, we demonstrate that the library is a welcoming place for all.

- Orientation or Training
- Time Commitment Approximately three - five hours per week, including preparation and attendance at conversation class, and a six consecutive month commitment. Classes lasting 60 to 90 minutes will be scheduled for Thursday evenings.
