Do you have a dog that LOVES people? Does he/she always make people smile and laugh? Does your furry baby enjoy socializing? This volunteer opportunity is for you!!
Our Purrs and Paws program is designed to provide additional socialization and comfort touch, from your furry baby! The difference that a dog makes in the daily lives of hospice patients is something that cant be duplicated. Your dog can bring happiness and calmness to those that need it most!
Our volunteers play an important role in the care of our hospice patients. Volunteers visit with their patients once a week (minimum) to provide added socialization. Many hospice patients are in nursing homes and although they are surrounded by other people, depression and loneliness can set in. That is where our volunteers come in! Volunteers can play games, do puzzles, play music, attend activities, or just sit and visit with their patient. Volunteers are also there to provide comfort touch: massaging patients hands with lotion, brushing their hair, etc.
We are looking to add to our volunteer team in the following counties: Kendall, Kane, Dupage, and surrounding. Dogs must have a basic obedience certificate, or proof of completion, before they can begin visits.
