Are you overwhelmed by the current health and economic crisis facing people across the world? Maybe you’ve been feeling the urge to do something, but aren’t sure what? The voices of advocates are needed more than ever.

We know it’s the communities already pushed to the margins that now face the greatest risks in this pandemic, both in the U.S. and globally. As Congress decides how to respond, we must ensure that decisions made right now and over the coming months will meet the needs of people living in poverty.

You can have a say in the policies that will impact millions of people living in poverty here in the United States and around the world. At RESULTS, we teach you how to do that. We support you to be an advocate.

Specifically, RESULTS advocates are working to:

  • Support low-income renters and people experiencing homelessness in the United States, whose risks are magnified in the pandemic and economic crisis.
  • Slow COVID-19’s spread globally, and protect access to other lifesaving health services and education for people facing poverty around the world.

As a RESULTS volunteer, you will be an effective advocate in the fight against poverty.

Practically, that means:

  • Developing a relationship with your members of Congress so that when you get in touch, they listen.
  • Meeting with your members of Congress and their staff (virtually, until it’s safe to set up in-person meetings).
  • Writing persuasive opinion pieces in the media.
  • Getting support from your local RESULTS group monthly for training, updates, and action.
  • Being part of a movement of people committed to ending the systemic and structural injustices that drive poverty.

*RESULTS is supporting all of our advocates to meet and take action virtually.

No advocacy experience? No problem. RESULTS provides issue and advocacy skills training to all volunteers.

We’ve been doing this for 40 years, and we know that change doesn’t happen just because we vote. It happens because you tell your members of Congress what you care about and what they can do about it. It happens because you make calls, you write letters, and you meet with decision makers face to face. Change happens because you demand it to happen.

There is no time to wait. Your voice is needed now.

Step up. Speak out. Become a RESULTS advocate.

About RESULTS

Location:

1101 15th Street NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005, US

Mission Statement

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy -- whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world.

Description

For over 40 years, RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund have been shining light on critical, effective solutions to poverty. By combining the powerful voices of civic advocates with research and oversight of U.S. anti-poverty efforts at home and abroad, RESULTS has been changing government priorities and people’s lives.

"I saw RESULTS on VolunteerMatch, but I wasn’t sure what advocacy was. Before that, I wasn’t really aware of the way different government policies impacted me. But RESULTS gave me a whole new perspective. I learned that if you want change, first you need to see what members of Congress are doing and build connections." - Yaseer Khanani

"I became an advocate because I wanted to be more involved in an organization that strives to make positive change. I really appreciate how genuine and dedicated everyone is to the RESULTS mission." - Sunjay Menon

"At RESULTS, we advocate for the issues that are close to my heart, like global health, education, and poverty eradication. I get to talk about issues that I witness throughout my professional and personal life. I can effect change by raising my voice." - Shabina Hussein
