Empower a young person to make the best college choice and achieve life goals by becoming a virtual College Prep Mentor for a HS Junior! Help them to start getting ready to complete their college applications!
WHAT IS OUR COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM?
This program focuses and motivates students towards achieving their learning goals, whether that be a four year college or university or a vocational or technical school. With a combination of age appropriate and appealing college access activities, and consistent encouragement, youth have the tools and resources they need to succeed personally and academically. For the first time, we are pairing mentors with Juniors in High School during their spring semester to help encourage students, and get them starting on preparing for the college application process.
WHAT IS YOUR COMMITMENT AS A MENTOR?
Work one-on-one with a student as they navigate the preparations for the college application process before entering their senior year. Students are typically from low income and/or 1st generation households with different support numbers, and at different part of the process.
Help your mentee with creating their college list, writing their personal statement, and researching and reviewing scholarship options
Serve as a role model, providing guidance and support
Commit to attending each weekly mentor session from 5pm-6pm on Wednesdays, beginning February 3rd, 2021 and ending June 2 nd, 2021 with the hope that you and your mentee will agree together to continue on during their senior year.
There will also be a mandatory orientation on January 29th at 5:30pm. You will also receive a curriculum to support you.
