Overview: At the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, we take pride in providing an environment that inspires curiosity, self-directed learning and fun for our guests of all ages. All staff and volunteers are recruited, trained, directed and developed with this in mind. We believe that science is fun and that everyone can be a scientist when they make observations and ask questions. Research shows that when you mix GREAT SERVICE with GREAT PEOPLE, the result is LASTING MEMORIES for our guests.

Department: Learning and Interpretation

Description: Education Facilitators are a vital part to the Buffalo Museum of Science. Education Facilitators will present educational programing to school groups and our guests. They will also present floor demonstrations or hands-on activities to our guests to engage them during their visit. They may also lead guided tours as needed.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Set up classrooms for programming day of event
  • Greet groups in friendly manner
  • Follow programming guidelines outlined in training
  • Attend training sessions for programming
  • Complete a background check
  • Complete Abuse Prevention course online

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Facilitate floor demonstrations and hands-on activities for our guests

Skills/Experience:

  • Science or education background recommended but not necessary
  • Must be able to work with children of all ages
  • Public speaking skills

Time commitment: Minimum of 3-month commitment

History
Founded in 1861, the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences has been collecting, studying and providing learning experiences for the people of the Greater Niagara Region for146 years. The Society carries its work out at several different locations throughout the region, including: The Buffalo Museum of Science, Tifft Nature Preserve, neighborhood-based community centers and other outreach locations.
