Developing youth-focused nonprofit forming in New Jersey and New York City is seeking a Board Chair to help build (along with the Founder) a strong, committed and involved Founding Board of Directors. Not for the "faint-of-heart", our incoming Board Chair must be someone who can vibe with the Founder, see the vision and help her run with it - providing the business and legal expertise to match her management, leadership and educational strengths.
The nonprofit has a clear vision, but has not yet been incorporated (we are looking to do that before the end of the year), so this person will truly be involved from the ground up. The organization will include educational, artistic, athletic and service programs for youth in grades K to 12 - starting in New Jersey and eventually making its way to New York.
Initials tasks will include: (a) spending time with the Founder and getting to know her vision for the organization; (b) laying the foundation for Board governance and operations; (c) recruiting, vetting and onboarding Board members; (d) helping with the development of the incorporation documents (including fundraising for the organization’s tax exemption application fees); (e) crafting a fundraising plan for the first year of operations. Outside of the initial meeting with the Founder, these tasks can be done virtually.
While Board leadership experience is not required, we are looking for someone who: (a) LOVES kids (and wouldn’t mind leading an activity with them at some point); (b) can match the Founder’s high energy, sense of organization, wit and sense of humor - but can rein her in when needed; (c) can host board meetings when set; (d) is discerning enough to select the best possible individuals for Board membership; (e) has significant knowledge of the nonprofit and/or educational space; and (e) has significant connections that can be leveraged for resources to benefit the children.
We see young people as Powerhouses of Promise - and this role is envisioned as a partnership that will help us design and advance a program that will help them reach their fullest potential.
Interested candidates are asked to send a detailed resume and thoughtful cover letter to jirehgroupllc@gmail.com.
