This is a wonderful chance to get to know Spartanburg's history. You would be giving guided tours through the oldest home in Spartanburg county and talking about the American Revolution. We cater to school groups and traveling adults so there are many different types of people to interact with. There is some walking and a couple of staircases.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Spartanburg County Historical Association is to explore and preserve our region's history by collecting and sharing the stories of the people who shaped that history. The Association: Engages visitors in unique living history programs and events in the city and county of Spartanburg; Inspires learners of all ages to investigate the history that begins in their own backyard at our historic sites and regional museum; and Involves the community in the preservation of our shared past.

Description

The Spartanburg County Historical Association is devoted to the history of Spartanburg and nearby areas in upstate South Carolina; it is comprised of a Regional History Museum and three historic sites. Walnut Grove Plantation is a pre-Revolutionary War site located close to I-26 in Roebuck, SC. Price House was a stagecoach stop, post office, and house of public entertainment in the late 18th and early 19th century. There is also a double-pen slave cabin on this site which is in Woodruff, SC. The Seay House is located within the city limits of Spartanburg and is an excellent example of a Scots-Irish farmstead. The collections at the Regional History Museum include maps and documents, photographs, military items, decorative arts, and fine arts as well as a numerous other artifacts in a broad range of categories.
