Bridgeway’s Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Program provides women and children with safe housing at two confidential locations in Saint Charles and Lincoln County. Our domestic violence shelter’s residential services are typically four-six week programs with the primary goal being to obtain safe and stable housing and becoming self-sufficient. Our programs provide additional services to both residential and outreach clients.

On-Call Emergency Response and Hospital Advocacy Volunteer’s will be assigned to provide advocacy to victims through our Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) or Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) programs. DVRT and SART Volunteers provide survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with support, advocacy, and information immediately after an assault has occurred. We are looking for volunteers to be on-call and respond to the hospitals in the Greater Saint Louis Metro Region for victims of rape, sexual assault and/or domestic violence.

Volunteers working with this program will be on call for a scheduled amount of time and will respond with staff to the hospital to meet with the survivor. While volunteer advocates are required to be on-call for a 24-hour shift, actual call times will vary from shift to shift. DVRT and SART Volunteer responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to calls during your scheduled shift within a 45-minute response time.
  • Provide on-site crisis intervention to survivors, provide empathetic support and information, advocate on their behalf when asked to do so and when appropriate.
  • Provide compassionate support to survivors during rape examinations, explain the process and the reasons for them.
  • Assist with accessing Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services and when needed, refer to other community resources.
  • Explain the criminal investigation and judicial process and the survivor’s rights and opportunity for input.

If interested in volunteering with us, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information on how to become a volunteer with us. We would love to get you started on the process, so please let us know if you'd like to be a part of our volunteer team and when you might be available for an interview.
