Advocates for Children CASA
Volunteer Today!

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained volunteers who represent the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers are appointed by a Judge and serve as the voice of the child in the courtroom. The CASA volunteer helps to ensure that the children are in safe, permanent and thriving environments. CASAs make independent recommendations to the court that include a child’s placement, school, and emotional well-being. The volunteer remains with that child throughout the life of a case. The CASA volunteer is one of the stable and caring adults that the child can turn to during a difficult time.

Volunteers must complete 30 hours of training before being sworn in with the court, and appointed to a case. Each training will have both morning and evening class availability that meet at our office in Aurora. These 3-week long training classes will equip future volunteers with all the knowledge and wisdom necessary for becoming the best Court Appointed Special Advocate they can be. The 3-week training class will culminate with all of those who completed being sworn in by a judicial officer and a celebration!

Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Consent to background check (no DUI in the last 10 years)
  • Complete 30 hours of training
  • Commit to 12-18 month commitment
  • Spend time with CASA child/children 3-4 times a month (10-15 hours)
  • Write court report for each court hearing

If you would like to learn more about becoming a volunteer and learn more about the training process and qualifications, please contact Training & Recruitment Manager Rachel Leins at rachel_leins@adv4children.org or 303-328-2347 to set up an informational meeting.
