There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but there are many clinical studies actively enrolling participants to test novel therapies, explore innovative diagnostic techniques, improve the quality of life of caregivers, and ultimately prevent this disease. However, over 50,000 volunteers, both with and without Alzheimer’s disease are needed to participate in the more than 300 studies happening across the United States. Recruiting and retaining participants for clinical studies is the largest barrier to advancing Alzheimer’s disease research, second only to funding. To overcome this challenge, the Alzheimer’s Association has developed TrialMatch, a free tool that matches individuals to clinical studies in their area they may be qualified for. As part of our TrialMatch outreach strategy, TrialMatch will be independently advertised at the 12 local Walk to End Alzheimer’s events.

The Day-of Volunteer will be responsible for recruiting Walk attendees to educate them on research studies and help them sign up for TrialMatch. Don't worry! You do not need to be an expert in Alzheimer's or research to volunteer to support TrialMatch. Ideal volunteer is friendly, outgoing and is okay with not knowing the answer to every question. This opportunity is great for groups, athletic teams, or civic groups to volunteer together to educate the community on clinical trials. There will be a webinar training prior to the event date to help prepare you with some simple facts so you are successful.
