Volunteer Position: Cosmetologist Volunteer

Reports To: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Position Summary : Cuts and on occasion styles patient’s hair at the bedside, according to the Plan of Care.

Essential Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

• Provides haircuts for Hospice patients when requested by patient or family through clinical staff

• Completes the task according to the volunteer request for patients unable to transport out for a haircut

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Maintain appropriate skills and license for hair care
• Ability to complete the requested task
• Ability to maintain sanitary requirements for hair care supplies
• Punctual and reliable
• Ability to communicate with tact and sensitivity
• Ability to travel to the patient location
• Ability to stoop, bend, push pull, lift a minimum of 20 lbs. and move through the home environment of a patient

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must provide a current license from the Florida Board of Cosmetology or Florida Barber Board
• Minimum of one year of professional experience
• Successfully complete application, interview, reference checks, criminal background checks, drug screening and health screening
• Must be able to provide and maintain proper sanitation of supplies and tools to complete the hair care request, which may include one or all of the following: washing, cutting and/or styling a patient’s hair and any related clean up
• Commitment to Catholic Hospice Philosophy of Care
• Agreement to follow rules of confidentiality

Training Requirements:

• Volunteer Orientation
• Annual compliance training
• Volunteer encouraged to participate in educational in-services and volunteer support meetings offered by the hospice.

Service Excellence:

• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families and members of the hospice team
