The Superior Court of New Jersey is looking for volunteers for the Juvenile Conference Committee in Hunterdon County!
Youth volunteers ages 14-17 and adult volunteers ages 18+ are needed for the Committee.
What IS the Juvenile Conference or JCC?
The JCC serves under the authority of the Family Division of Superior Court. A JCC is a six to nine-member citizen volunteer panel appointed by the Family Division Judge. In a confidential setting, JCC panels hear and decide matters involving alleged juvenile offenders. The juvenile, parent(s) and/or guardian(s) and complainant/victim are invited to discuss the offense and related matters with the committee. The JCC considers facts and makes recommendations to the judge for a resolution that would aid in the juvenile’s rehabilitation.
Are there other volunteers on each committee?
There are both adult and youth volunteers on each Juvenile Conference Committee.
Is there special training to be on the JCC?
Yes! Each volunteer is trained by the Juvenile Conference Committee Coordinator.
The volunteers are also sworn in by the Judge during this training.
How often and where is the volunteering opportunity?
The JCC meeting dates and times vary by county,
but most committees meet once a month for about 3 hours during evening hours.
