If you have basic sewing skills, we need you! Our food pantry gives out hundreds of bags of food each month to our neighbors in need. In order to cut down on plastic waste and comply with the NYS plastic bag ban, we make reusable shopping bags for our clients. We provide sewing machines, a simple pattern, and all materials. You just come and sew to your hearts content. While we won't make you teach a class, we'd love for you to sew in our building so that clients can learn from watching you. If you would rather sew at home, we can arrange that too.
About South Wedge Food Program
68 Ashland st, Rochester, NY 14620, US
The South Wedge Food Program exists to offer free groceries to people in need in Rochester, NY. We provide food with respect and dignity and help clients find other sources of help in and around the Rochester area.
Since the 1970's the Historic Calvary St Andrews building has hosted a feeding program for those in need. Currently, we feed between 300 and 400 families each month; providing them with healthy food choices. We are set up just like a grocery store to help reduce the stigma of needing to visit a food pantry. Our volunteers are friendly, helpful, and enjoy each other's company. We also have a sewing program that makes reusable shopping bags for our clients.
