ORGANIZATION: The People's Pantry

We are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 to noon. Shelf stockers are needed from 10:30am to 1pm to restock depleted shelves and organize the store room. This opportunity is perfect for people who like organizing and categorizing. You need to be able to bend down and lift a minimum of 10lbs. There is a small amount of interaction with clients. We are a relaxed environment where volunteers enjoy one another's company. Help is especially needed in the last two weeks of each month, when we get the most clients because they have run out of food stamps.

Mission Statement

The People's Pantry offers free groceries to people in need in Rochester, NY. We provide food with respect and dignity and help clients find other sources of help in and around the Rochester area.

Description

Since the 1970's the The People's Pantry (formerly the South Wedge Food Program) has been providing nutrition to anyone in need. Currently, we feed between 600 and 800 families each month. We provide each family with a variety of food ranging from shelf stable items to fresh produce, and frozen meats to sweets. During the pandemic we adapted a pre-packed bag model, supplemented by fresh, frozen and refrigerated items that our clients can choose from a variety of those available.
