ASL Fluent Volunteer for One Week Summer Camp!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: SIBLING CONNECTIONS INC

Camp to Belong MA serves 100+ siblings who have been separated by the foster care system in Massachusetts. For a week in August, these siblings get to spend a week together at Camp Winadu in Pittsfield, MA engaging in both traditional camp and sibling repair activities.
This year, we have a sibling group who are D/deaf and use ASL. We are looking for 1-2 individuals (ages 21+) who have the ability to translate between hearing people and ASL users, to assist us in making our previously hearing camp accessible and welcoming for D/deaf siblings. These individuals would be paired with this sibling group and travel throughout the camp day with them, as part of a team of other counselors and campers (who are hearing). Individuals must complete a volunteer application, which includes references and background checks. The dates of Camp to Belong are August 19-26, 2020; the first two days are volunteer counselor training, and the last five are full-blown camp adventures! Qualified and interested individuals please contact Brenna Andreozzi, Camp Director:
siblingconnections.program@gmail.com or 617-501-1229. Thank you!

About SIBLING CONNECTIONS INC

Location:

89 South Street, Suite 203, Boston, MA 02111, US

Mission Statement

Sibling Connection supports the creation of enduring family relationships and community connections for sisters and brothers experiencing foster care in Massachusetts. Our work is accomplished through innovative programs and practices restoring and strengthening the lives of siblings who have been separated when placed in the foster care system.

Description

Sibling Connections supports siblings separated by the public foster care system in Massachusetts. There are over 10,000 youth in foster care, and often siblings are separated due to the lack of foster homes available that are able to home all siblings. Children in foster care who have access to their families report improved social, emotional and behavioral well being. We support family connections through three programs:
-Sibling Sundays is a program we offer from Oct - May which allows siblings to get together about once a month with their siblings to spend time and enjoy an activity together for 3-4 hours. We operate Sibling Sundays in the Greater Boston area, Lowell, and Springfield.
-Camp Sibling Connections is a week-long camp located in Smithfield, Maine in which 115 siblings come together for a week of fun.
-Weekend Retreats allow siblings to spend a weekend together building their relationships and enjoying activities that typical siblings would experience.

Sibling Connections is supported by the volunteer support of over 100+ individuals statewide and are the backbone of our organization. So often, kids in the foster care are supported by adults in who are paid to do so. Our kids treasure the time with a caring adult who is choosing to be a part of their lives because they care about them. Please consider becoming a Sibling Connections family member today!
