Wildlife conservation and community development go hand in hand. There’s no way of saving African wildlife, without getting the local communities involved. With this project, not only will you be playing a vital part in the lion conservation efforts, but you will also be working in schools, teaching children the importance of the magnificent wildlife they live alongside. The key for conservation is education.

You will alternate your days between community work and lion conservation work. Both are very rewarding, unforgettable and satisfying experiences.

Your role in the communities is to bring awareness to the importance of wildlife and work with communities to educate them on meeting the challenges of living in close proximity with dangerous predators. You will also help overwhelmed teachers in classrooms, offering one-on-one attention to the children that need it the most. This dedicated support system is fundamental for these children to complete their school's requirements.

Enter the Big Cats, African Lion populations have been declining by an astonishing 43% from 1993 to 2018, according to IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) research. The decrease in population is higher than any other species including the rhino. The staged lion release program aims to release the wild offspring of captive bred lions into appropriate National Parks and reserves across Africa. In order to accomplish these goals, we need you. You will play a vital role in the daily care and welfare of our resident captive lions.

Helping people and helping lions, all at once.

Description

Our Ways

To offer an experience of a lifetime to anyone with a passion for travel, different cultures and the people, wildlife and most importantly; a desire to make a positive difference in the world. We are ready to welcome volunteers with open arms to come and join us in taking our efforts far and beyond. Let’s go 'MAD’ Make A Difference together.

Community and Conservation

We recognize that for our wildlife conservation efforts to succeed, we must have the support of our surrounding communities; who need to benefit from our efforts. The people we work with are living in areas where human - wildlife conflict is very real; they can lose their entire crop in one night due to elephant or livestock (which is their wealth) due to lions or other predators. Therefore, community development and wildlife conservation are inseparable.

"No game park in Africa will survive, unless the surrounding communities’ benefit from that park." - Nelson Mandala

What started at Antelope Park more than 30 years ago, today encompasses 17 surrounding community projects which include teaching, healthcare clinics, agricultural and life skills projects as well as conservation education centers. The communities we work with have total control over the projects that we assist with; so, we can support them in the most effective ways possible.
