Administrative Associate to the Executive Director

  • Location: Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council, 240 Elm Street, Cumming GA 30040
Purpose: The Administrative Associate assists in document creation, paperwork flow, organization, meeting preparation, and other tasks for the office of the Director. This team role is vital to the successful growth and sustainability of the council and requires excellent phone, computer, and critical thinking skills.
  • Key Responsibilities
    • Become familiar with the Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council objectives and activities.
    • Become familiar with The Drug Free Communities Support Program (DFC)
    • Utilize internal and external web-based programs as they relate to the job duties
    • Help assure a seamless functioning office environment
    • Documentation creation, digital/paperwork flow, organization, and meeting preparation,
    • Perform a wide range of administrative clerical duties
    • Represent the Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council professionally at all times
    • Prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines
    • Attend meetings and prepare materials for council meetings
    • Handle confidential information with discretion
    • Gain an understanding of responsibilities resulting in ability to train replacement
    • And/or have the additional opportunity, if desired, to participate in project work such as: designing materials, website work, record keeping, social media, recruiting, or tabling events.

  • Time Commitment: A consistent schedule of two days per week, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a commitment of at least three (3) months.

  • Qualifications
    • Proven intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
    • Previous administrative experience preferred
    • Comfortable and professional on the telephone
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must
    • Ability to work quickly and independently and to take initiative within established parameters
    • Ability to work with paid and volunteer staff in a busy, non-profit service delivery setting
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation

  • Training
    • Orientation and Training is provided

  • Length of Appointment: 30 day probationary period and then appointment renewal offered every three months dependent upon work and team size/needs.

  • Development Opportunities
    • Acquire substantive professional experience as well as exposure to critical issues concerning drug awareness in nonprofit management environment
    • Develop a comprehensive perspective on the Council’s mission and service delivery processes at the county level
    • Increase exposure and understanding of the importance of the administrative function in the workplace
    • Participate in personal and leadership development opportunities through group participation, delegation, and observation
    • Gain valuable experience working with the most widely recognized humanitarian organization and diverse populations in the community

Description

The Forsyth Drug Awareness Council was awarded a grant in 2015 by the Drug Free Communities Support Program. The program is a collaborative effort between the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The United Way of Forsyth County is the fiscal agent for the Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council.
