The California Historical Society is seeking volunteers with a passion for history! California Historical Society Ambassadors assist museum Visitor Services Staff with the day-to-day operations of the museum and bookstore. Ambassadors welcome guests and speak with them about all of the wonderful things the California Historical Society has to offer. Ambassadors will become familiar with the museum’s mission, membership program, events, exhibitions, and store to speak with guests about the benefits and value of the institution.

Ideal candidates will be available during weekday operations hours (Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 6pm) at least one day per week. In addition to talking with guests Ambassadors will assist with administrative duties including making copies, responding to emails and phone calls, and assisting with cleanliness and tidiness of the gallery space.

The California Historical Society, founded in 1871, is a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire and empower people to make California's richly diverse past a meaningful part of their contemporary lives. We operate a museum, research library and bookstore in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood where we showcase California’s diverse history through exhibitions and public programs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Customer Service or Retail Experience in a store or nonprofit organization
  • Computer savvy, with familiarity with Microsoft and Google applications
  • Friendly and cooperative attitude
  • Weekday availability preferred
  • Interest in History, California, or Nonprofits
