Connect Children with Nature "Teach children to love nature... people take care of what they love!" - Elizabeth Terwilliger

Learn the renowned multi-sensory teaching techniques of famed naturalist and environmentalist Elizabeth Terwilliger and share the beauty and wonder of nature with small groups (5-8) of elementary school children by leading fun hikes full of exploration and adventure. WildCare's Terwilliger Nature Guide training will teach you all about the plants, animals, habitats and ecology of Northern California and give you the opportunity to share that knowledge with eager children! All training is provided.

TRAINING STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

Volunteering as a Nature Guide will not only introduce you to some of Marin county’s most beautiful open space, it will also allow you to:

* meet other nature lovers and cultivate new friendships
* expand your own knowledge and awareness of nature
* experience personal and professional growth
* participate in continued learning
* be invited to special WildCare events
* become familiar with the natural/cultural history, flora, and fauna of one of our fieldtrip sites
* learn teaching techniques
* observe Nature Guides and children in action
* gain practical experience in leading small groups of children

This extensive training provides opportunities for 5 classroom/field sessions and 3 required field trip shadowing sessions - indoors and outdoors - starts after orientation. Throughout the training, WildCare's staff will share expertise on plants and animals in their different habitats and Coast Miwok culture. There is a nominal fee of $50 to cover the training and materials-no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Once training is completed, WildCare asks Nature Guides to commit to a minimum of two 3-hour hikes a month for one year, scheduled in advance. All hikes take place on weekdays during the school year.

WildCare's next orientation is Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11am-12:30pm at WildCare in San Rafael.
