Campus Compact of the Mountain West
Campus Compact of the Mountain West (CCMW) is a membership organization that engages college and
university presidents throughout Colorado and Wyoming as part of a national coalition of more than
1100 colleges and universities across the country. These institutions are passionately committed to the

SECond Mission VISTA AmeriCorps Program
The SECond Mission VISTA AmeriCorps Program focuses on building the capacity of member campuses
and community-based Veteran Serving Organizations to support veterans’ access to and persistence in
higher education and their successful transition to the civilian workforce.
Naropa University
Located in Boulder, Colorado, Naropa University is a private, nonprofit, liberal arts university offering
undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, education, environmental studies, peace
studies, psychology and religious studies. Buddhist-inspired and nonsectarian, Naropa University is
rooted in contemplative education, a teaching and learning approach that integrates Eastern wisdom
studies and the arts with traditional Western scholarship. Naropa was the birthplace of the modern
mindfulness movement.
AmeriCorps Member Benefits
Full-time 35-40 hours/week
* Living stipend of $15,388.80 for the year.
* Education award commensurate with the Pell Grant (~$6,000) to be used for current
educational expenses, to repay qualified student loans, or to be used within 7 years for
educational expenses.
* Child care credit for eligible members
* Deferment of existing student loans during term of service
* Repayment of interest accrued on qualified student loans during the term of service
Goal Statement
Naropa University is seeking to expand its support services for underrepresented populations, including
veterans. The goal of this project is to identify and expand support resources on and off campus for
veteran and active military students. This position will be responsible for designing and implementing
programming and trainings on campus to assist the Naropa community in becoming a more welcoming
place for veterans. Naropa University has a particular emphasis on contemplative education which
should be integrated into support services.
Objectives and Activities
Development and Implementation of Veterans Success Program: Working under the Executive Director
for Mission Integration and Student Affairs, the Veteran Success Coordinator will develop and
implement a comprehensive veteran success program.
1. Contemplative Practice Exploration: Connect with Director of Contemplative Practices to explore
and get familiar with various contemplative practices
2. Work collaboratively with relevant services on campus to increase support for veterans,
including but not limited to:
a. Student Affairs/Office for Inclusive Community Team
b. Career and Community Engagement
c. Admissions and Marketing
d. Financial Aid
e. Housing and Residence Life
f. Office of Development
3. Collaborate with the Boulder Vet Center as a resource for local veteran service organizations
4. Work with the Office of Financial Aid to expand support services for veteran students.
5. Advise a Veterans Student Organization and support that organization’s programming.
6. Continue to develop and implement training for staff and faculty
7. Collaborate with Student Affairs team to develop a Veterans Mentorship Program
a. Develop protocols for mentor pairing and for contacts with new students.
b. Assess new student needs and assign best-fit mentors appropriately.
8. Develop means of assessing the program utilizing multiple methods of data collection
a. Exit surveys/interviews with student veterans.
b. Work with Institutional Research to assess student veteran retention.
9. Complete program documentation and disseminate results
10. Develop portable programmatic schematic/operations manual for program sustainability and
transfer to other institutions.
11. Connect with US Air Force Academy faculty to discuss and implement collaborative cultural
exchange projects

K2H Civic Futures AmeriCorps Program
The K2H Civic Futures AmeriCorps Program focuses on civic learning and engagement opportunities and skill development for kindergarten through higher education (K-H) students. In addition, the K2H program strengthens partnership pipelines between K-12 systems and higher education systems that create continuity for civic learning and engagement initiatives as students transition from K-12 to higher education.
