SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS NEEDED!
Volunteers are invited to help children learn about the wonders of nature by assisting with the Summer Nature Camp 2019 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden!
The Arboretum camp program is designed for children ages 5 to 11, and engages them in exciting, hands-on science, nature, and free-play activities surrounding a new nature theme each week in a beautiful, natural, outdoor setting. While exploring the 127 acre gardens and discovering the amazing animals and plants from around the world found throughout the grounds, children will discover the science behind gardening and explore their creative side with nature-inspired crafts.
Volunteers are needed from 12pm to 4pm on the following themed weeks:
July 22nd - 26th: Marvelous Mammals
July 29th - Aug 2nd: The Earth, Our Friend
Aug 5th - 9th: From Storybooks to Real Life
*Volunteers must commit to at least one full week; When responding, please indicate your week preferences.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision and direction of Arboretum camp staff, assist instructors and campers with programming, games, outdoor garden explorations, science and art projects, and lunch coverage.
Experience/Requirements:
A genuine interest in working with children required. Experience working with ages 5 to 11 preferred but not required. Must be able to tolerate outdoor conditions spend portions of the day on one's feet.
Attire:
Casual, workplace/child appropriate clothing
Good walking or tennis shoes (no flip flops or opened toed shoes)
Hat (recommended)
