Volunteer Service Description 2019

Department: Curatorial

Intern Position Title: MOLAA Curatorial Intern Matías Duville Residency

Under the direct supervision of the Curator of Collections, the MOLAA Curatorial Intern will assist the Curatorial/Exhibitions Department in the project completion for Matías Duville’s Residency.

The MOLAA Curatorial Intern Matías Duville Residency will be assigned a key project to be completed by the end of their internship. Due to the nature of our institution, the Intern will be encouraged to work with other departments and venture into other museum areas such as Collections, Education, and Events in order to provide a multidisciplinary experience. The intern will participate and help coordinate MOLAA’s artist’s residency exhibition to begin end of July and will collaborate with the final production phase of the installation piece slated to be completed and displayed at the Museum on August 24 th through December 1 st, 2019.

Supervisor: Curator of Collections

Time Commitment: A minimum of 10 hours and 3 days per week (Monday through Friday) with a 4 week commitment. Days and times are flexible. Need to work through mid-August.

Training: The intern will be given on-the-job training for this position, giving instructions for specific assignments, establishing objectives and setting deadlines by the artist, Matías Duville and Curator of Collections

Duties:

  1. Assist the artist with drawing utilizing dry pastels, charcoal, & conté crayons
  2. Assist the artist with the use of fixative for art work
  3. Provide general assistance during the residency according to the artist’s specification
  4. Provide assistance during installation and de-installation of artwork

Qualifications:

  1. Spanish knowledge preferred but not required
  2. Ability to take direction and work independently and with others comfortably
  3. Dependable and consistent
  4. Good verbal and manual skills
  5. Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  6. Must show examples of work or portfolio

Physical Requirements:

  1. Able to stand for 3 hours at a time
  2. Have a steady hand for drawing

Importance of job to the organization’s purpose: By assisting the Curatorial department, the MOLAA Curatorial Intern will provide MOLAA with the assistance needed when interacting with our guests and helping them create a collaborative art project, thus creating the environment to make guests feel welcome and creative and instill in them the desire to return.

The Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) is the only musuem in the western United States that exclusively features contemporary Latin American fine art. Since its inception in November of 1996, MoLAA has grown tremendously in terms of its physical space, the services that it offers to the community, its educational programs and special events and the importance of the exhibits presented.
