Mentors connect with students on a weekly basis to provide individual support during a Noorthoek class.
In Computer 100 students are learning basic computer skills in a group of 10 students. Each student can work
at their own pace.

Mission Statement
Noorthoek Academy provides an affordable college experience, offering continuing education in the arts and sciences for adults with learning challenges and and other intellectual disabilities. We are dedicated to creating life-long learning opportunities and enriching people’s lives.
Description
The Academy is designed for students who want to expand their knowledge and enrich their lives by learning more about the world around them. We provide many opportunities on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College for self-expression and development of creative talents. We explore natural sciences, history, literature, drama and current events while learning about other countries and cultures using a dynamic, hands-on approach. Students have the opportunity to increase their self-confidence, independence, and sense of belonging while making friends in an atmosphere of mutual respect, encouragement, and inclusion.
The academy was founded in 1989 to fill a gap in the community for post secondary special education opportunities.
