Action Day 2019

Join us on Thursday, August 8, when United Way teams up with the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center to host Action Day 2019. This free, family-friendly event is your chance to make an immediate impact on the educational success of kids in our community and have a ton of fun!

Each year, more than 100,000 students in our community go back to school without a backpack and the essential supplies needed to learn and succeed in the classroom.

Since 2016, United Way has been teaming up with all seven of Minnesota’s pro sports teams to bring volunteers together at Action Day to help local students start the school year ready to learn by filling backpacks with school supplies.

In 2019, we will unite 4,000 volunteers to pack 40,000 backpacks that will be distributed to students through nonprofits and school districts across the metro area.

Action Day is made possible by hundreds of individuals who volunteer to help with pre-event setup or work in a staffing role capacity during the event. Staff-volunteers provide critical event support, ensuring we can provide an awesome experience for all Action Day attendees, and can ultimately reach our community goal of sending thousands of kids back to school ready to succeed!

Action Day’s largest staff-volunteer need is for day-of Event Staff who help in various event execution roles during the event at Xcel Energy Center. You will be asked to select both a shift time and role area on your registration.Shifts available:
  • 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Greeters & Guides, Concourse Activities, Backpack Restockers/Counters, Backpack Runners
  • 11:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Vehicle Loaders
  • 2:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Vehicle Loaders
  • 3:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Greeters & Guides, Concourse Activities, Backpack Restockers/Counters, Backpack Runners
  • 5:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Vehicle Loaders
