Mission Statement

Ohio's Aspire programs provide FREE services for individuals who need assistance acquiring the skills to be successful in post-secondary education and training, and employment. Local programs offer classes at flexible locations, and on different days and times to meet diverse needs. All students are required to attend orientation, where an assessment is given to help determine the individual’s educational needs and goals. One of the free services available is Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (ESOL).

Description

The Polaris Career Center ESOL program offers free adult classes in 4 locations: Polaris, North Olmsted Library, Rocky River Library, and the North Royalton Library. We have morning, afternoon, and evening classes, and each class meets for a total of 6 hours per week.

Our classes consist of wide range of non-native speakers of English - from non-speakers to high intermediate speakers. We rely on volunteers to break into small groups as each teacher has this range of speakers and it is impossible to teach so many levels at once.

We rely on volunteers to meet the listening, speaking, reading, and writing needs of our students. Volunteers often lead small group discussions, listen to students read, and teach vocabulary and basic language to our beginning-level ESOL students.
