Volunteers enrich the lives of our residents through providing activities that promote personal growth, education, dexterity, independent living, and interpersonal connection. As an enrichment volunteer you will engage with residents in activities that allow residents to grow, improve their lives and bring joy.

Responsibilities:

  • Discuss the activity with the Enrichment coordinator set goals for the activity. Plan how to execute the activity decided upon, including how many supplies are needed, who the activity is designed to reach and who will acquire needed supplies.
  • Set up area the and activity day of as decided. Invite the residents to participate, taking into consideration who requires assistance and accommodating that as best we can.
  • Engage with the residents in the activity taking into consideration ways to have residents get the most out of said activity.
  • Once the activity is completed and goals have been met, clean up the area. Make a list of things that need to be restocked for next time.
  • Take time to debrief with the Enrichment coordinator if needed or provide a report to Enrichment coordinator of who participated and how the activity went for each individual for documentation purposes.

Volunteer Opportunities (all the below and more!):

  • Cosmetology: Licensed cosmetologists and barbers can help our residents to feel their best with basic services such as shampoo, cut and set.
  • Creative writers: If you have a love for creative writing - our residents, families, volunteers, and staff will tell you their stories. Use your skills to translate their oral histories into a written document. OH staff will support the volunteer with editing, typing and formatting.
  • Veterans: Provide support to veterans who are residents of Our House. You can share your personal experiences and offer connection to your fellow veterans in a special way due to shared military experience. (not most needed with current community)
  • Monthly Support Group Facilitator: We are seeking emphatic, passionate and effective listeners with a demonstrated commitment to participants’ needs to commit to a 1-year term delivering a monthly group. Create and maintain a brave space and develop respect for group process allowing all members to share. Mindful on maintaining boundaries, cultivating space for process work outside of drug and alcohol use.
  • Art Therapy: Help residents maintain their social and motor skills and self-concept by being a friendly helper in our activity room. No art experience necessary. Art activities could include crafting, decorating birdfeeders, spin art, and more.
  • Life Skills Workshop Facilitators/ Independent Living Skills: Volunteer facilitate an hour-long Life Skill or Independent Living workshop to residents. Workshops offered could include topics such as finances, daily living, communications, self-care, continued learning, and more.
  • Acting Class: A special partnership with Profile Theater - colleagues offer a bi-weekly or monthly acting class to our residents and clients of NHCP. This opportunity to recurring for x amount of time and is available on-site.
  • Complimentary Therapy: Licensed body workers offer their expertise to support our residents’ overall wellbeing; Rolfing, massage therapy, reiki, physical therapy, sensory & feedback processing, acutonics, acupressure, and more.
  • Community Outing Support Volunteer: Support OH staff in community outings as the opportunity comes available.

Description

HIV/AIDS is a complex and challenging disease that can often be overwhelming. The Our House team works with people with advanced HIV/AIDS who are having difficulty managing independent living. We tailor services for each individual that defines what "living well" means to them.

Consistent with our vision and core values, our Philosophy of Care is based upon compassionately and effectively meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents and clients.
