Step Up delivers compassionate support to people experiencing serious mental illness to help them recover, stabilize, and integrate into the community. Through dynamic partnerships, we provide positive social and learning environments, vocational training, permanent supportive housing opportunities, and recovery services to empower individuals to cultivate lives of hope and dignity. We exercise innovative leadership and advocacy to increase public understanding, support and acceptance of all people living with mental illness.
Volunteer job description: Serve as volunteer consultant to assist Step Up staff in designing and running yearly staff retreat for 234 to 243 staff members in late October 2019 or early November 2019.
Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: Serve as volunteer event coordinator/consultant. Collaborate on a job description with scope of work, timeline and tasks. Meet with Retreat Committee to flesh out each consultant’s role in plans/goals for event: Venue, Catering, Activities. Consult with Retreat Committee on allocation of per head budget of $100 for group of 230-240 staff members, total not to exceed $20,000. Check in with retreat committee weekly via written report or conference call.
Requirements: Some experience in event planning/management, good organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, works independently as well as good as a team.

OUR IMPACT

Tens of thousands of committed volunteers together with thousands of civic, nonprofit, and business partners have enabled L.A. Works to make a significant, visible, and lasting contribution to Los Angeles.

Since 1991, L.A. Works has mobilized and led volunteers to contribute over a million hours to Los Angeles through unique volunteer programming, which has included:

  • Serving meals and preparing emergency food provisions for over 425,000 homeless and low-income individuals;
  • Providing educational and enrichment activities for over 65,000 disadvantaged youth;
  • Revitalizing schools, parks, and community centers for more than 200,000 volunteer hours;
  • Offering companionship to seniors and friendship to abused and homeless women for more than 20,000 volunteer hours;
  • Conserving, cleaning, and restoring urban and natural environments in and around Los Angeles for more than 75,000 volunteer hours;
  • Caring for animals in shelters and sanctuaries at over 1,200 volunteer projects; and
  • Training more than 900 Angelenos in the project and volunteer management.
