Do you enjoy helping others? Do you wish to give back to the community? Would you like to help the future adults of our world? If so, we are the perfect place for you to volunteer.

SafeHouse of the Desert is a program for youth in crisis serving ages 11-17 years of age located in Thousand Palms, CA.

The primary role of the volunteer(s) is to lead a small group of teens between the ages of 11-17 in a class that teaches them something positive, fun, and interactive. The length of the group/class can range anywhere from 1-hour to 2-hours depending on days and times that are available in the client’s schedule. This position requires a brief outline describing your group to be submitted with your application and resume to be considered. Some past groups/classes that have been taught to SafeHouse clients include, but are not limited to, Fine Arts Drawing, Pottery, Glass Fusion, Calligraphy, Jewelry Making, Painting, Arts & Crafts, Vision/Collage Boards, Cooking, Baking, Pickleball, Mini-Golf, Yoga, Life Skills, Job Readiness, etc. If any special supplies are needed, they must be provided by the volunteer.

Mission Statement

Operation SafeHouse, with community support, provides emergency shelter, intervention and outreach services to runaway, homeless, and other youth in crisis. SafeHouse Offers youth positive alternatives to becoming victims of the streets.

Description

We are a shelter for youth at risk, in crisis, or a runaway. SafeHouse of the Desert will provide a critical alternative to young people whose lives are in turmoil. We have a 3 or 4 week program. Our 4 week program is our drug and alcohol program. Our goal is to keep the family unit together.

Age range is from 11 to 17.
