Volunteer Elder Victim Advocates are part of the Elder Victim Advocate team. They serve as the link between elder victims of crime and the necessary supports they need in order to recover from the aftermath of a crime. Elder Victim Advocates assist elder victims of crime to navigate multiple systems including working with law enforcement, protective proceedings, prosecution, medical and mental health services, and educate clients to prevent revictimization.

An Elder Victim Advocate works with a crime victim to create a client-directed plan for the supports they may need and facilitates the provision of those supports. The volunteer will collaborate with other team members and multiple community partners to ensure access to needed services and supports.

A Volunteer Elder Victim Advocate may perform such duties as:

  • Provide crisis intervention by phone and/or in person to elder victims of crime in Butler County.
  • Provide on-going support to elder victims of crime during the duration of their case
  • Provide long-term follow-up with victims as assigned by the program supervisor.
  • Connect victims with appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Educate victims on their rights under Marsy’s Law (Ohio Rev. Code 2930.07)
  • Accompany victims to court proceedings, medical visits, law enforcement and prosecution interviews, and other crime-related appointments.
  • Assist victims in applying for protective orders, crime victim compensation applications, and completing other paperwork.
  • Review case reports and communicate with EVA staff and volunteers regarding client concerns.
  • Follow up with law enforcement, prosecution, referral contacts, and other involved parties as appropriate.
  • Complete required agency paperwork including timesheets and case notes.

All other duties as assigned and/or appropriate to the position.
