Boulder County Resource Conservation

Come join the fun and excitement of the 150th annual Boulder County Fairand help support the event’s Zero Waste initiative! The fair starts Friday, August 2, and ends Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont, CO. Volunteer positions are available all ten days. Volunteers will use grabber tools to sort through recycling, compost, and trash bins, ensuring the waste streams are uncontaminated. They will also help educate fairgoers on the importance of composting and recycling and explain how to properly use the zero waste stations located throughout the Fairgrounds. Volunteers must arrive a half hour early for their first shift to receive on-the-spot training in recycling and composting. Aprons, gloves, and refreshments are provided.

Volunteers can work one or several shifts over the course of the fair (hours most needed are primarily in the afternoons and evenings). To make your service more enjoyable, you can volunteer during any events of interest including: BMX Moto Throw Down, Ballet on Horseback, Rodeo, Pro Bull Riding, Carnival, Demolition Derby, and more! Volunteers for zero waste are a key element to the success of the fair, diverting several thousand pounds of valuable recyclables and compostables from a wasted fate in a landfill. Your support not only helps this event but pushes Boulder County closer to its Sustainability Plan goals.
