Volunteer Assignments:ENTRY GATE GREETERS: Helps to ensure that 5K participants don’t miss the directional signage to the parking/5K pavilion area, by waiving them through to "Main Rd" where they will meet up with parking greeters near the starting line. FAQs might be is there a park entry fee or parking fee? The answer for both is that it is "complimentary" to them. PARKING GREETERS: There is plenty of surface lot parking immediately outside the runners’ pavilion area and on the other side of Main Rd. Parking is allowed regularly on the grassy areas at Markham, EXCEPT we will not allow any cars to park at or near the starting line or beyond. This is obviously due to safety concerns for all of our 5K participants. (NOTE: The Off-Duty Police detail will be instructed to address any issues of non-compliance). ONSITE REGISTRATION: Onsite registration will be located at Pavilion #7. You will assist with race registration and packet pick-up (e.g.distributing and collecting waivers from pre-identified registrants who have yet to sign this Agreement). START/FINISH AREA "FLOATER": You will be given a specific duty upon arrival. Jobs may include volunteer check-in, crowd control, award ceremony assistant, refreshment distribution (e.g. stocking or restocking Pavilion #4 with plenty of water or other hospitality items for kids/parents participating in the Fun Run) or anything else that needs to be done by the Fun Run Coach or AccuChip Timing. When kids and parents participating in the Fun Run arrive at the registration area please direct and assist them to head toward Pavilion #4 where the Fun Run Coach will lead them through warm up games and activities prior to the start of their 100 m run. 5K COURSE CAPTAINS: You will be strategically placed at a point along the course or at one of the two turnarounds to ensure that runners follow the directional layout of the course and turnarounds. A little 'motivational" cheering, clapping, etc also goes a long way to help them! FUN RUN ASSISTANTS: The primary function of this role is to assist the Fun Run Coach in all activities for kids and parents prior to their 100 m run. Duties may include staying with a group of kids and managing their excitement. Helping to make sure that Pavilion #4 remains stocked with bottled water and snacks. Serve as a liaison between the timing company and the Coach about important/changing Fun Run information. This role is ideal for someone who loves and is good with groups of kids and is a good problem solver. HOSPITALITY / REFRESHMENT PAVILION #5: Assignments at this are will be intuitive but include restocking hospitality items (i.e. fruit, nutrition bars, pastries, and other snacks) and making sure that the area remains tidy-free from empty water bottles and Other discarded items throughout the event. WATER STATION ATTENDANTS: There will be four(4) water stations for runners on race day, and two(2) of those stations will be located out on the 5K course. Each station will have an ample supply of water to place on the table for the runners. NOTE: Water stations located out on the 5K course will be equipped with a 5-gal Igloos and dixie/dentist -style cups for runners to grab as they pass. Obviously, the cups will immediately be crushed and discarded onto the ground. We will have trash containers set up next to each water station for used cups. When the race is finished, please help clean the area of any discarded cups on the ground-we will provide latex gloves at each water station and at the hospitality area.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Description
If you would like to learn more about The Salvation Army, you have come to the right place.
Bells and red kettles. Thrift stores. The red shield. These are the most common images people have of The Salvation Army. But look behind the red shield and you will find that we offer a wide array of programs catering to the needs of children, families, the elderly and individuals.
The Salvation Army was founded by William Booth, a Methodist minister, in London in 1865 and provides services to people in over 100 countries around the world.
The basic social services developed by William Booth have remained an outward visible expression of the Army's strong religious principles. In addition, new programs that address contemporary needs have been established. Among these are disaster relief services, child care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, AIDS education and residential services, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation. Each year, more than 30 million people receive services provided by The Salvation Army.
