Help strengthen communities through a year of service with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity's AmeriCorps program. This hands-on experience provides you with an opportunity to learn and develop new skills and confidence while serving in a critical role in helping Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future for themselves and their families. AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers in Service to America who perform indirect service to build capacity and sustainable solutions. You will serve at our local office in Azusa assisting in either marketing and communications or faith and youth services and report to a full-time staff member. Benefits typically include: living allowance, Segal Education Aware after successful completion of service, possible forbearance for qualified student loans, health plan benefit to our existing coverage to supplement out-of-pocket expenses, member assistance program that offers counseling and financial planning resources, relocation travel allowance minimum, noncompetitive hiring status for federal government jobs for one year after your service. To apply, visit us at habitat.org/americorps.

Mission Statement

Families and individuals in your community in need of a hand up partner with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Through shelter, we empower. Description

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Habitat is not a give-away program. In addition to a 1% down payment and monthly mortgage payments, each homeowner family invests 500 hours of their own labor -- sweat-equity -- into the building of their house and the houses of others.
