We are an 501c3 non-profit organization that provides direct support to women impacted by any cancer. We focus on nutrition, fitness, and overall well-being. The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. provides education and economic resources during and after treatment, and as a result patients and survivors live a healthier lifestyle. This is primarily achieved through the TSN Scholarship program where participants are offered scholarships and or grants, in tandem with healthy living nutrition education. We provide women with knowledge and skills to help choose and consume healthy foods and beverages. Scholarships and or grants are used for gym membership, healthy groceries, chiropractic services, massages, and herbs/supplements.

The ultimate objective is to empower survivors to take a holistic approach to healing.

The organization is seeking to appoint suitable candidates to expand its non-executive Board of Directors in Atlanta, GA. The role includes:

Leadership, Governance and Oversight

Serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as Survivor’s Nest, Inc. develops and implements its strategic plan;

Assisting the Executive Director and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members and Executive Council members;

Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments;

Representing The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization;

Ensuring The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. commitment to a diverse Board and staff that reflects the communities it serves.

Fundraising

The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. Board Members will consider The Survivor’s Nest Inc. a philanthropic priority and make and/or solicit annual gifts that reflect that priority so that The Survivor’s Nest Inc. can credibly request contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, The Survivor’s Nest Inc. expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make and/or solicit a contribution that is commensurate with their capacity (to be jointly agreed upon on an individual basis).

Board Terms/Participation

The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. will serve a minimum two-year term. Board meetings will be held quarterly, and committee meetings will be held separately from full Board meetings.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. mission and who has a track record of Board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

A commitment supporting The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. beneficiaries;

Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals

Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. beneficiaries

Service on The Survivor’s Nest, Inc. Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.
