The One thing that you do. If you were to list your activities on a basic day, chores, running errands, meetings, work, school, family events, meeting up with people, friends or family....would there be any activities you could cut down in time, or remove altogether?
Focusing on my work and how important it is to volunteer and give a portion of time to someone who needs an hour of it, I realized that the one thing I could give is an hour to someone.
The One thing- is an hour!
Some of our patients and clients that are on hospice just need an hour. Someone to visit with them, or go to the post office for them.
Perhaps straightening their living room, or kitchen so that the rooms are easier to navigate and the most important home accessories are easy to reach.
The One thing you can give is helping someone navigate through rough waters. Rough for them. But a problem that can be solved when you step in with that one hour.
Many of our Volunteers on our Volunteer Crew are like a person with a map. They look at it and see how
to proceed with the journey. The patients, or the caregivers taking care of the patients just need help figuring out what to do next, where to turn, how to manage the rough weather.
The one thing you can do this summer is make a difference. Your one hour, can give a caregiver the opportunity to run to the store, post office or bank.
Your one hour can be reading Psalms out of the Bible to a anxious patient.
Your one hour can be holding someone's hand who lost a spouse and has no one to visit with anymore.
The One Thing may seem small to you. But it makes the journey a little more comforting.
If you think you can make that happen please contact me!
We also need volunteers in our business office for basic filing, record keeping, medical supplies being organized, and Medical/Patient binders being put together.
Respectfully,
Deborah Booth
