BBB AUTO LINE arbitrator pool consists of trained neutrals, primarily attorneys or professionals with extensive dispute resolution experience.
Arbitrators possess high levels of specific skills including excellent written, verbal, listening, fact-finding, and logical reasoning skills. They also must have access to the Internet, an email address and a valid driver’s license.
Volunteer arbitrators must be available to hear at least four BBB AUTO LINE cases a year, if called upon. Decisions should be completed no later than three business days after the close of a hearing. BBB AUTO LINE cases are handled either in writing, teleconference, or in-person at one of our BBB hearing sites.
Arbitrators are also encouraged to hear two to three non-automotive cases for their local BBB. Volunteers should make every effort to work with their BBB when scheduling hearings.
BBB AUTO LINE arbitrators are paid a $100 stipend for each case heard.

Mission Statement
BBB AUTO LINE is a conditionally binding dispute resolution program administrated by the National Programs of Better Business Bureaus and local Better Business Bureaus throughout the country. Its mission is to help consumers and businesses resolve automotive warranty or lemon law disputes. Launched as a program to one automotive company in 1981, BBB AUTO LINE now offers the program to over 20 automotive companies and is the largest warranty dispute resolution program in the United States.
Description
BBB AUTO LINE strives to settle cases through voluntary settlements reached by automobile manufacturers and consumers. Typically, the complaint involves an allegation by a consumer that the vehicle has a defect in the materials or workmanship or meets the criteria for a state lemon law case. If the case does not settle in the mediation stage it proceeds to an arbitration hearing and closes with a decision by an arbitrator. Participating in this dispute resolution process is more time efficient than a court case, more cost efficient for the manufacturer and allows consumers to participate in an expedited and free process.
