Mission Statement

We provide free public library service in the Township of Lower Merion; build and maintain the best possible collection of library materials, both print and non-print, and organize it for ease of access; serve the community as a center of reliable information; encourage literacy and learning through access to library materials and digital media; and support the educational, civic, and cultural activities of groups and organizations in the Lower Merion Township community.

Description

The Ardmore Library began through the efforts of the Women's Club of Ardmore in 1899 with six dollars, 300 books and a rented room. Today, we welcome over 90,000 visitors a year from all over the Main Line. We are heavily engaged in fulfilling our goal to build an educated workforce, so crucial to those who want and need to learn English and finish their education.

The Ardmore Library is a busy and productive place. Despite being located in the affluent Lower Main Line, our niche in the Library system has been to spend much of our staff time and financial resources on early learning and literacy. Even in this age of technology, not everyone can afford to have a computer, or may not have the funds to be able to afford access to the databases that will help them find a job, or research a school project, or even know where to begin looking for information. The Ardmore Library provides up-to-date resources for the community. In 2018 we provided:

  • Toddler Story Time and Crafts - 93 story hours serving 2,744 participants
  • Children’s’ programs - 49 programs in the library serving 708 youth; 3 school visits reaching 660 youth
  • Adult programming - 90 programs (13,500- internet sessions) - 354 participants. Recurring programs include 1 st Wednesday Book Club, Knitters group as well as one-time presentations.
